Life magazine photographer Horace Bristol spent the early years of his career in the town of the Golden Gate. The photojournalist had work that swept the history of the 20th Century. His poignant portaits of migrant farm workers in the California Central Valley, in collaboration with writer John Steinbeck, later inspired the novel The Grapes of Wrath. A personal tragedy in 1956 led him to destroy many of his negatives.
